Case of jailed journalist ties into ANAM corruption under Martinelli

The arrest and detention of 70 year old journalist Carlos Núñez López is related to a story he wrote about plans by Chiriqui businessman Enrique Luis Morales de Icaza to build a hotel in the midst of the Volcán Baru National Park; a plan that Martinelli's ANAM has since approved.

The Committee to Protect Journalists demands that Panamanian journalist Carlos Núñez López be released immediately by the Panamanian authorities, saying that "the verdict should be voided, Núñez should be released, and Panama’s legislature must eliminate all criminal penalties for defamation.”
