Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez complained yesterday that he is not getting value for money with his pay-offs to Panamanian politicians and labor union leaders.
The flamboyant leader made his comments during an 9.5 hour broadcast of his weekly talkshow "Alo Presidente!". "I keep pouring money into the bottomless pockets of these Panamanians, but they don't deliver", Chavez lamented. "For example, for a couple of million I would at least want to see three days of hardcore street battle bordering on revolution. But all I got was some road blocks and punks throwing stones. Oh, and Saul Mendez driving a new car."
"I've heard and read a lot about Panamanian corruption and I must say, they live up to their reputation on the isthmus," he added.
Chavez went on to chastise PRD politicians he says he has been supporting. "They seem to think I'm paying them just to sit on their lazy asses or do dubious real estate deals, like this guy Hector Aleman", Chavez exclaimed angrily. "And when the shit hits the fan, they can't even get their story straight", he went on, referring to what he called the "banana show" of vice-presidents and ministers delivering contradictory statements about Chavez' involvement in Panama's domestic politics.
Chavez concluded: "It's not that I don't have the money. I have plenty. But I have been real nice with these Panamanians so far. I could obtain better and quicker results by just raising the oil price and make money on their social unrest instead of spending it."
"I simply want more bang for the buck", he said.
