Fun, fun, fun, these primaries in the PRD. The funniest part is actually these yeye kids, the crowd that rallies behind Juan Carlos Navarro. They really believe that after 10 years of doing nothing as mayor of Panama City the electorate will reward this nitwit with 5 years of doing nothing as president of the country. Electing another elitist rich kid would of course be great for Panama's left as it will be much easier to mobilize protests in the face of rising cost of living and economic trouble. But it ain't gonna happen. He won't get the votes. He is just too fucking dumb.

Balabina is the popular front runner, but her campaign hasn't quite figured out yet how to take advantage of this position and the fact that the extreme right in the PRD is scared to death of her popularity. She would fare much better if she turned her campaign into a popular movement, got rid of the idiots around her and just ignored the spoiled brats.

Ok, I admit seeing Juan Carlos lose is going to be a lot of good fun, but you sound like just another well meaning naïve European lefty. I suspect you desperately want to like Balbina, to the extent that you even try to give her advice. As if she was some kind of progressive candidate. Please don't disappoint your readers. All candidates in the upcoming Panama election are shit, it's just that some are a bit more dangerous than others.

No, she fits right into that fine tradition started by Omar Torrijos of leftist impostors. That's why the gringos like her, because they can pass her off as a "progressive" candidate so people won't revolt when in fact she'll follow a right-wing agenda.

But that doesn't change the fact that she is popular, unfortunate as that may be. And advice? In Panama, telling comandante Colamarco that he shouldn't stick his finger up his nose when he's on TV is already valuable campaign advice.
