It's Morning Again, in Panama

It's morning again, in Panama. Today, more men and women will get up at four to try to go to work than public transport or our roads can handle. More students than ever will enjoy waiting for a bus to take them to school for hours. More buses will crash or burn than in the last ten years combined.
With interest rates at about half the record highs of previous decades, thousands of Panamanians are mired in debt, more than at any time in the past ten years.
Today, eight couples will divorce, more than what it was just five years ago. And with inflation almost doubled, they can look forward to a future of debt and difficulties to make ends meet.
It's morning again, in Panama. And, under the leadership of Mayor Juan Carlos Navarro, our city is weaker, dirtier, and more dangerous and inaccessible than ever before. Why would we ever want more?
