HELLS ANGELS IN PANAMA

When we first got wind of the story that the next mayor of Panama City Miguel Antonio Bernal had acquired a motorcycle, we feared that a looming midlife crisis had gone unnoticed by relatives and friends and thus the Bananama Republic news gathering unit was immediately dispatched to the scene where, reports had it, the famous human rights activist would arrive on his iron horse.

While we were waiting for the roaring sound of a Harley Davidson engine to announce Bernal's arrival, a small figure emerged around the corner of Via Argentina next to Banco General on, well, let's say it was s surprise. Bernal, as it turned out, had purchased a genuine Kitomi which he now steered towards the quickly growing crowd waiting for him outside his offices. Unfortunately, the moped stalled and from across the street your newshounds witnessed our future mayor frantically kicking the starter to get the thing moving again. Eventually he succeeded and made a glorious entry at the parking lot.
Bernal explained that he bought the 70cc road monster, which boasts a top speed of 70 km/h, to get around the city faster and more economically, given mounting traffic jams and ever-increasing fuel prices - an example he hopes (but we are somehow not that sure) will be followed by his fellow citizens.
