Legisladrones insist on Cuba style anti-protest law

Cuba has criminalized protests, so why can't Panama?

In our biggest tax free car dealership, also known as the National Assembly, legislators of the government alliance insist that what Panama really needs is a law that imposes prison sentences of up to 15 months on those who protest against something. What really bothers our thieving lawmakers is that they can't just whiff through traffic in their tax-free SUV's on those days that civil groups disagree with their crooked policies. Avenida Balboa closed because money laundering real estate developers throw iron slabs on cars is one thing, but traffic halted because of these SUNTRACS cholos? No way!

"What Cuba can do, we can do better", they reason, and thus we'll see yet another proposal to implement a law criminalizing dissent, protest and civil disobedience.

Well, if we can't block the streets, we can block their phone lines and fill up their inboxes. Here are the details for some of the legislators involved. Anyone have their cellphone numbers for text messaging?

  1. But isnt that the loophole of representative government? To pick someone to represent you and basically cross your fingers? Hypothetically, what happens if the whole house of legisladores (in true batman fashion) is given a powerfull psycotropic drug that makes them vote for a law that abolishes free speech alltogether? What then? its legal isnt ? Ofcourse the stealth bombers would be here before the ink dried, but really what line of defense do we have against our own system of government? Hitlers coup in muchen didnt give him his nazi super-duper-powers, representative government did. Were lucky that the PRD (either because of “Party values” or just to be a cool and active opossition) is pulling in the opossite direction. For now at least.

    • “Sire–over what do you rule?”

“Over everything,” said the king, with magnificent simplicity.

      “Over everything?”

The king made a gesture, which took in his planet, the other planets, and all the stars.

“Over all that?” asked the little prince.

“Over all that,” the king answered.

For his rule was not only absolute: it was also universal.

      “And the stars obey you?”

“Certainly they do,” the king said. “They obey instantly. I do not permit insubordination.”

      “I should like to see a sunset . . . Do me that kindness . . . Order the sun to set . . .”

“If I ordered a general to fly from one flower to another like a butterfly, or to write a tragic drama, or to change himself into a sea bird, and if the general did not carry out the order that he had received, which one of us would be in the wrong?” the king demanded. “The general, or myself?”

“You,” said the little prince firmly.

“Exactly. One must require from each one the duty which each one can perform,” the king went on. “Accepted authority rests first of all on reason. If you ordered your people to go and throw themselves into the sea, they would rise up in revolution. I have the right to require obedience because my orders are reasonable.”

  2. I’m glad Martinelli is stopping these jack asses from stopping traffic every time they want to try and prove some idiotic self serving point…

  4. The problem is that civil socety of Panama is lazy. They are confomists. If some people who has a higher position takes a crap on their poarch they just don’t care beacuse don’t want trouble and don’t want to mess with authority. They don’t see the SUNTRACS is fighting for their right as it is expressed in this article: http://www.vozdepanama.com/2010/04/15/golpe-a-la-democracia/ They just only see that the roads are closed and I can’t go live my lame life. They have never fougt for anything. on the other side SUNTRACS is too disorganized and hasn’t got a leader with brain.
